What if I already have a plan - (e.g., a marketplace plan or Medicare)?

Updated over 6 months ago

If you already have a health insurance plan that you'd like to continue using under your employer's ICHRA, you generally have the ability to do so – although it depends on the type of health plan. Plans must meet a minimum set of health services they cover in order to qualify for reimbursements under an ICHRA.

If you have an individual plan from the marketplace, you can generally keep it and have it covered under your employer ICHRA. However, if you were receiving subsidies or Premium Tax Credits (PTCs), you will need to make sure that you do not continue receiving them. You cannot combine PTCs with your employer ICHRA allowance and will have to decline one or the other. This process is referred to as an affordability check, and you can read more about it here.

If you already have a Medicare plan, you will generally be able to have it covered under an ICHRA.

To have an existing health plan included in your employer ICHRA, you will need to report it on the Zoror platform, along with supporting documentation.

To report your plan to Zorro, log in to the platform. After you log in and start filling in your information, you will be asked whether you want to elect a new plan or report an existing one. Choose the correct option and follow the instructions. When uploading evidence of the plan, make sure to upload a document that includes the carrier and plan names, full premium and all dependent names.

When you self-report an existing plan to Zorro, you will continue paying out of pocket and get reimbursed by your employer, and will not get a Zorro Pay card issued to you.

After Zorro receives your submission, we will review it to make sure it qualifies for an ICHRA and that all of the details are correct and match up, and then finalize your enrollment. You will be reimbursed for the cost of your plan (up to your allowance amount) through your payroll.
